With Emerald you can choose to learn to drive in several different driving environments - busy city driving in the historic city of Canterbury or a more relaxed drive in the seaside town of Herne Bay, we also cover the Kent towns of Ashford, Broadstairs, and Folkestone.
Herne Bay is a relaxed and hospitable seaside town, with miles of safe beaches, a good fishing and sailing water. Although the foundations of the present town were only laid out about 150 years ago, the nearby village of Herne is much older, and Reculver, a few miles to the east of Herne Bay, was the site of a roman fort and Saxon church mentioned in the Doomsday Book. A stroll through the seafront gardens at anytime of year provides a fine opportunity to enjoy the refreshing sea air before perhaps a spot of bargain hunting in Herne Bays many second hand and antique shops. A jazz concert at the `Theatre In The Park` or even a `Seal Watch` boat trip out into the Bay. The town also hosts a sports centre, modern indoor swimming pool and cinema all within easy walking distance of your accommodation. There are plenty of places to eat ranging from cafes and pubs to small friendly restaurants.
Canterbury is the seat of the Anglican community and Kent's premier tourist destination. It is known world wide for Chaucer's Canterbury tales and for the story of Thomas Becket. Canterbury also boasts a range of fortifications including traces of the original roman defences, its primarily medieval walls, gate and Norman castle. The picturesque streets of Canterbury present one of the most cosmopolitan collections of restaurants and bars in England.
